3.5 AVERAGE

ARC from Edelweiss

meh about most of them, but i think short stories just aren’t my thing. i liked Inertia, Hearkeners, and The Transformationist.. would’ve liked a full novel of Hearkeners but i don’t think that’s a plus for short stories.. Inertia was good as a short story, the concept was cool, but characters’ stories didn’t move me ... The Transformationist was my favourite because it worked as a short story for me and i still felt connected to the characters and cared about them.

A mess of a book

the first, third, and fourth stories were by far the strongest! they really had me tuned in. all of the original short stories were amazing though.

i didn’t love that she included the carve the mark stories because although they were well written and interesting, including them felt more like a marketing gimmick than anything. i would’ve loved to see short stories completely separate from anything she’s done before.

Read the first 2 stories. I liked the first one but didn’t feel attached to the characters.

The concepts explored were interesting, as were the intermittent sketches, but the stories and writing were way too tweeny and simplistic for my taste.

This was a lot of fun. These short stories have lots of fun details to them. Not every idea needs a full fledged book. So kept my attention, since they were short stories some felt abrupt. The Hearkens was my favorite as a short story. It was very well rounded for being so little pages.
