My heart broke for Nicky who experienced this illness in a way I’m glad I haven’t. I rooted for Bonnie and honestly could have read an entire book just about her. As the oldest, I empathized with Avery. The only character I just couldn’t get on board with was Lucky. I didn’t find anything about her redeemable.
I wanted to give it 5 stars because I did really like it but I needed more. More dialogue because so much of it felt like the author telling us rather than showing us. I wanted more of Bonnie and Pavel, but that’s because I’m a romance fan. And I wish we could have seen Avery build back the pieces of the destruction she set for her life. Authors always seem to miss taking the opportunity to put their characters through therapy sessions on the page or through rehab on the page. This book was heavily focused on addiction, I’d have liked to see more into the healing piece.
With all that said this was a really good book and I’m glad I picked it up. Someone get this in front of Reese Witherspoon because this has limited tv series written all over it.

I don’t know what it’s like to have sisters; but I do imagine it something like this. What a delightful and emotional journey this book takes you on. Blue Sisters is a character-driven novel, written from the perspectives of three sisters: Avery, Bonnie, and Lucky. Their beloved sister, Nicky, has passed away unexpectedly and they are forced to navigate life without her.
I don’t typically gravitate towards character driven novels, but I really loved this. It’s raw and emotional. The writing style had me flipping pages and left me feeling incredibly immersed into the story. I kinda hate the sisters, but I also absolutely love them. They are flawed, yet endearing. These characters feel so real it’s as if they walked right off the page. It’s easy to relate to their characteristics, feelings, and relationships. I love the way the flashbacks are worked so effortlessly into the storyline. A story of sisterhood, womanhood, pain, addiction, grief, shared trauma, and so much more.
“We're your sisters. Whatever you do, we're ultimately on your side. You could kill someone, and I'd help you sneak the body back to us and fill a bathtub with hydrochloric acid so we could dispose of it discreetly.”
