3.5 stars- I'm glad I picked this one up and that a friend lent me In My Father's House. I enjoy her writing and love reading at the end about the research she put into the book, from the parts she added just for the sake of the story and the parts that were true. This probably won't be the last of hers that I read. Not sure how I missed these in school?

This book was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. As the story went on, it got better and better. Though it was a little confusing at first, I actually liked the format of the book, where it started with the end, and on the next page went back to the beginning. It is a fairly easy read... I read the last 70 pages in a little over half an hour. Though at times it can be a little distressing because there are those characters that you are just obliged to hate, and you do. Although my original intent was to read this book before we went to Salem (which was 3 years ago) it was nice to have read it after being there and learning a little about the trials.

This book offered a different viewpoint of what could have really happened during the Salem witch trials and how it really affected people throughout the town differently. Having grown up reading and watching shows about the trials I was really pleased with how well the author dealt with the subject and how she dealt with the nuances of social and political interactions in those simpler days, even from the perspective of a young woman.
Very well written and I think well-worth a read.

Yk I think it was pretty good actually. The main character was interesting. I would’ve liked more descriptions on the characters ages though.

I really liked the perspective Susanna had to frame the witch trials, and the depth of her pondering. This was more of a intrinsic look at the trials, not quite as action packed, but provocative 4/5

This is a historical fiction but what is great about besides being a easy read is that the author did research and used history to formulate a fiction novel of the Salem Witch trials and put so many historical content in it, including names of people involved and what occurred. I have read many books on the trials out of interest and they were completely fiction and had little facts in it but I appreciate how this author used history and facts and put it all together for a easy read that takes to 1692 with being able to under the Puritan life and how some of that life style may have contributed to the accusations. Very good book.
