Picked it up, and read it cover to cover.
Well-written characters with flaws that weren't an obnoxious trait to justify being an asshole. Filled with cute moments that make you kick your feet and squeal. To moments of pure rage, anger, and deep emphathy that made me cry endlessly for their pain.
I don't know what other people rate it, but for me it had a little bit of everything.

<3<3<3<3 much love for the characters, book, and author

DNF at 13%. Not because of the writing or because I wasn't interested in the characters or the plot. I actually read the 13% (first three chapters) in a little over half an hour, which is quite fast for me. There was a lot about the start of this book that I found very engaging!

Unfortunately, one of the CW's that are listed at the start in this book hit a little too close to home for me. The CW was given at the very start of the book, before the first chapter, and I personally chose to try the book out anyways. This was my choice and I do not regret it. However, I still decided to DNF this one for my own personal reasons. But I will be looking for another book by Sajni Patel to read.

Update: just rented 'First Love, Take Two' and I'm excited to start it soon.

If you are looking for a romance book that has drama and plays into a  decent amount of tropes (forced proximity, dislike to lovers, taking care of the other when injured, ect.) then this book is exactly that. There was nothing ground breaking about this book, but it was overall enjoyable. Additionally, I enjoyed reading a romance book within a different culture. It added some unique characteristics to the story. However, the drama at the end of this book did feel a tad unnecessary and could have been solved with a little more communication.

There is a decent amount of misogyny in this book, as well as a few darker themes, so check the trigger warnings.

While this book did have its cute moments, the
deep misogyny of Liya’s father, Ravi, and Mukesh
was hard to ignore. The
sexual assault was also really graphic, and I was SO. ANGRY. at the men in Liya’s life who fundamentally failed her.
But all in all, it was really interesting exploring another culture and its traditions.

Definitely hands down one of my most favorite books I have read in a long time. This book has a firm place in my heart and I adore it so deeply.

A really cute fluffy book that made for a fun and quick read! I love supporting Indian authors and it was so inspiring to read about my own culture in a book. Representation matters! I also enjoyed the larger theme about sexual assault and how toxic victim blaming can be. This book handled themes of misogyny really well and made me really feel for Liya. Absolutely loved reading about a strong independent woman and how it’s possible to find someone out there who can handle what comes with loving a woman like that.
