I really enjoyed this book!! Excited to see what book 2 brings :)
Pardon the caps lock but I AM NOT SURE WHAT I AM SUPPOSED TO FEEL RIGHT NOW!!!!!
After finishing The Iron Trial I am not sure if I think it's awesome book with a really great twist at the end or a book that had great potential but totally screwed it up in the final chapter.
ARGH!
The Iron Trial follows the story of Callum Hunt, a boy who has been taught by his father all his life to fear magic. When he somehow fails his way into the Magisterium, a school where young mages are taught to control their power, Call starts to realize that maybe his father had other motivations and the truths circulating about The Enemy may be different than what everyone thought.
I like a lot about this book. Callum and the other Iron year students are easy to relate to. Black and Clare's view on a magic school was interesting as well. I'm just not sure . . .
I think the only way I can truly figure out how to feel about this book is to see how it fits in with the series overall. I'll read The Copper Gauntlet and get back to everyone.

Wow. I honestly didn't expect to like this as much as I did. But honestly, what did I expect from Cassandra Clare. I don't know holly black too much but I have not read a bad book by Cassandra.

This was awesome. Callum Hunt gets accepted to the Magisterium, where he makes friends, learns elemental magic, faces his enemy and saves a friend. He also learns that he can be dangerous without the ability to control his magic which is why it is important for him to attend the magisterium.
This story is tense because it contains has horrific scenes. It is good for the Harry Potter fan base. The only reason I rated it four stars is because I am a sensitive reader.

I suspect people will compare this the the world of Harry Potter, but this is a fine book and beginning of a series in its own right. The characters feel older than twelve in the book. The world that is created is interesting, with the plot and characters driving the story rather than the world itself. it is engaging and there are twists and surprises to keep the story going as well. It is clearly the beginning of a series and it is all far from resolved at the end. A book well worth reading, it will be interesting if the series can be as engaging the whole way through.
A good sinister way to tell a story about a boy who can do magic.

At first, when I see this book in bookstores, i wouldn't give it a second glance or much of a thought. Everyone says 'it's a rip off from harry potter' 'its just another harry potter inspired novel' and all that. Yes, I don't read harry potter but I've always liked the concept.
A friend of mine read this book and recommended it to me. I remember, all she said to me about this book was "THE PLOT TWISTS! THE GODDAMN PLOT TWISTS! GOD!" and plot twists are my personal favourite when it comes to books, so I decided to give it a try.
Turns out, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The story itself is compelling, with the same concept as harry potter, clare and black is sure to raise critics. No one writes better than J.K. Rowling, they always say. But isn't it interesting to read someone else's writing based on the same concept? (its quite interesting for me)
And have you seen the main character? He's the one who kept me going. Callum Hunt, you see, is a boy with a limp. For all his life, the people around him avoided him for his flaw. He was sick and tired with everyone acting that way. He's kind of like the guy who makes snide comments about the teachers in the back of the classroom. He's sarcastic that way. Oh, and he was raised pretty much as a rebel. His father's warnings about Magisterium and how he taught Call to fail the test.... It's not everyday you meet many characters who's raised as a rebel, by the way, so I was intrigued.
Might I say, the plot twists is not dissapointing at all. It makes you think of a plot that often crosses your mind, but you never give it much of a thought.
I'm excited to see where this story is going.
Pardon my bad english, i hope you can understand enough to see what i think about this book.
Like I said, he's raised as a rebel, so rebel he did.
^^ i have a thing for dramatic endings lol bye for real
