**Minor Spoiler Alert**
I don't write reviews, but I feel like one is called for here just because so many people are bashing the book about being a Harry Potter rip-off without actually reading the book, just because Cassandra Clare co-wrote it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and while I understand that other people have different tastes to me, I am old-fashioned in a sense that i believe you actually have to read a good portion of a book to form a valid opinion on it.
A lot of people are commenting on how from the cover, the main character looks so much like Draco Malfoy, but if you read even the tiniest bit of the book you would relise that the blonde boy on the cover isn't the protagonist, but rather, from our understanding at this point in time, is the hero of the series.
Which brings me to my next point. This book is surprising in the fact that the protagonist isn't the hero of the series, but something completely different.
The protagonist is not Harry Potter, I actually found there voices and personalities to be completely different, but that may be just how I imagined them.
There were elements that were similar to Harry Potter, but then again, what major YA fantasy series nowadays doesn't? There were also elements similar to other series, of which, they were listed at the back (of my copy atleast) as an answer to the question of if there were any books or films that influenced the book.
There were a few minor problems I found through out the book, but nothing major. I could tell it was written for people younger than myself (I'm 18, the books were written for about the same age group as Percy Jackson), but that wasn't that bad. Rhe most major problem was that at times the characters acted a bit mature for what I imagine 12 year olds to be like, but even then that's not to big.
Overall I found it to be a really good and enjoyable read, and that you should actually read a book before you completely tear the book a part :)

Everything I liked about the "Harry Potter" series and none of the things I hated about the "Harry Potter" series.

A school for magic wielders....check
A prophesy regarding an orphan boy who will save the magical community....check
A terrible villain without a name....check
A motherless boy with two friends--a girl and a boy....check

This classic middle grade fantasy was lots of fun. Looking forward to the next in the series.

A lot of complaints about this book are all the similarities to Harry Potter. Let's be real here, guys. Just about every magic book from now until we're all dead is going to mirror Harry Potter in some way. That's just the way it is, because when you're the first and the best? People are going to emulate you.

I liked this book, a lot. Because I am a Harry Potter fan, and these sort of magical worlds tend to suck me in. Did I see the glaringly obvious similarities? Of course I did. Do I like Aaron a hell of a lot more than I ever liked Ron Weasley? Without doubt (hey, I have an opinion and that opinion is that Ron sucked). I like Tamara too, and I really like Call. I like that he has a disability that hinders him, and I like that he's scared and longs to be with his father while also wanting to seek out his magical ability.

I'm curious to see what happens in the next book, and if it diverts away from the Harry Potter undertones. I'm willing to keep going, that's for sure, and this book was fun. Fun enough that I read it in just a few hours and that it kept me entertained. That's what matters most to me.

Harry Potter Knock Off

Review to come when I don't feel as ranty about it as I do right now.

Too much like HP for me but major fans of Potter may love it.
