Don't listen to the people who say this book is a Harry Potter knock off! This book was incredible! Everything I was looking for in a book. I'm so glad I went into this with low expectations, because it ended up surprising me multiple times!!
Highly recommend! 4.5/5 stars

This was alright!
Curious to see how this will develop.

Me recuerdan a los de Percy Jackson, pero mejor escritos. Me gustaría haberlo leído con doce años.
Really fun book and a nice writing style! Got some quite some good plottwists aswell (:
This book was amazingg... I didn't expect anything when I started reading this book and I surely didn't see that ending coming. I need the second book so badly right now
This book delivered what it promised: a boy who tries to avoid magic school ends up in magic school. This is one of those stories that is partly about discovering a new world, but also partly about relationships and about being true to yourself. The protagonist is presented as a troublemaker, but one with a good heart, and is the sort of character who's easy to root for. He also has a disability, and though it's a relatively minor one (he walks with a limp), it has an impact on who he is, and on his strengths and weaknesses while also not defining who he is or where his story will lead. This story kept me reading, and I finished it in one evening. It's one of those rare middle grades stories that I was able to enjoy as an adult rather than simply being left with the impression that I would have enjoyed it as a child. It also has characters who evolve, at least two plot twists that I didn't expect, and an ending that makes clear this story isn't over. I should note that this book isn't perfect; it had at least two or three lines that made my inner editor wince - including one spot where it seemed like a line of dialogue was missing entirely (which could very well have happened after the book left the authors' hands). That having been said, those few lines hardly slowed me down because I was enjoying the story enough that I was clearly going to keep reading. Glad I picked this one up.
The most accurate word to describe my experience reading this book is painful. I was quite looking forward to it because I’ve read books by both Black and Clare that I’ve absolutely adored and so I was sure this one round be fantastic. Sadly that was not the case. Right from the get go I was disappointed because I thought it was a YA novel and not a middle grade novel. Now I do enjoy a good middle grade novel but this one was just plain terrible and had so many cringe worthy moments that I stopped counting. I know a lot of people enjoyed this one but it is definitely NOT the book for me and I absolutely will not continue with this series. One book of torture was more than enough for me!
4.5 stars! I absolutely loved it but in comparison to my five star books like The Mortal Instruments, this doesn't quite match up.
Super easy and quick read as expected with Cassie Clare and Holly Black books. Crazy twist that I did not see coming with Callum and I'm curious to see what happens next with his character. As a young boy who never really fit in and has finally found his place with friends and popularity, I understand why he made his decision. Not necessarily the right or best decision but hey, what would happen in the rest of the series if he didn't?
I especially love the three main characters and their friendship - Call, Tamara and Aaron. Love the scenes when they're together and sticking up for each other. Legit #friendshipgoals. When you're willing to die fighting chaos-ridden monsters for your friend.
The fantasy element of magic is pretty darn cool in this story and I found myself making a lot of connections of similarities between this book and Clare's shadowhunters series.
Overall, awesome YA read and a great break from serious adult novels if you're looking for something quick, easy and enjoyable to read

"The Iron Trial" is a fun YA novel.
I've read and listened to books by both Black and Clare, and while I've enjoyed all of Black's work, I haven't been a fan of Clare's. That made me unsure of how much I would enjoy "Iron." Thankfully, on the whole Black was able to temper Clare's need to over-describe, especially when it comes to clothes, weapons, rooms, or how people look. Every now and then you come across an line that was obviously Clare's hand, but generally it is toned down. Black also seemed to be able to hold back Clare' usual soap opera antics, where big stretches of the book are spent dealing with relationship drama while the antagonists conveniently sit around twirling their mustaches and twiddling their thumbs. Instead, the book moves at a good clip.
Overall, "Iron" probably would have been a better book if it had just been by Black, but it's still a fun, speedy read even with Clare's involvement.

I was really surprised by how entertaining and fun this was!
