This is a pleasant read about a lot of lovely misfits with minor damage from a sometimes not-nice world, risking their hearts and sometimes pulling back. Many of the characters and situations are too broadly drawn for my preference. It all ends happily ever after. The author does make a plot point of which kinds of books sell vs. which are worth writing and reading, yet this book leans toward exactly the “what readers want” plot that the writer in the book turned away from. So, what are we, the readers, to think of her own choice?
I got half way before I decided to return this one. It wasn't keeping my interest for some reason. It felt a little all over the place to me.

The idea is heartwarming, and I like its originality, but I had a hard time staying interested. It was just a bit too slow-paced for me.

The premise of the story is very creative and intriguing, however the execution didn’t exactly match. Half way through the novel I was still unsure of what was actually the point to the story as it seemed to constantly change with each short chapter. Until the last few chapters the connected between the different point of view characters became to come together, did the true point of the story come together. It’s light hearted and sweet, and it had some good moments, I found myself easily bored throughout.
The book is really quite cute and well-rounded.

This is the first book I've been brave enough to read from a good few I got from my Nan's after she passed, I have them from my Gran's as well, and there has been something keeping me from reading any for a while.
As though they are the last new experiences my grandparents can offer me and so I want to make them last, and though they are only books - and maybe not even favourite books at that - I know the power of words and didn't want to disappoint myself.
As such, I am pleased to say that this book was as genuinely charming, funny and sad as anything you'd expect to have to step into quite such large shoes. I enjoyed the stories, and the two plotlines were resolved in a very pleasing ending. Not exactly mind-blowing, but no complaints from me
