Christine Feehan is an author that constantly appears on my radar, and I’ve been meaning to read one of her books for a long time. As I have a weakness for motorcycle clubs – all the angst and drama that surrounds them – I decided to give Judgment Road a read.
From the start, I had trouble with this one. The writing was incredibly repetitive. Within the same pages – in some cases paragraphs – and it could have easily been cut with a good editor. For an author that is so popular and with so many books under her name, I found this really strange. Nevertheless, I persisted in the hope it would serve a purpose.
As the book continued, the repetitiveness lessened slightly, but it never faded. However, something else grew to annoy me. There were so many details that were not explained well, so many elements that left me unsure of what was going on in the world. This could be because this series links to other work by the author, and I would have understood these details had I read them, but I would have liked some explanation. Those words used to restate the same thing over and over could have been used to ensure new readers understood the world.
Sure, the story had some addictive elements. However, there was far too many things that were left open for me to enjoy this one. I know it’s the first in the series, but there were elements related to this couple that were deemed closed after a single sentence, even though it didn’t really close anything.
I guess the popularity of the author had me expecting far too much. As it was, Judgment Road failed to sell Christine Feehan to me.

Dark subject matter. Passionate, super steamy romance. Tormented pasts to overcome. Judgment Road was a fantastic emotional journey and action-packed thrill ride all rolled into one.
Christine Feehan is one of my go-to authors for all things paranormal so I was excited to see this spinoff series–which is tied to the Sea Haven books. Judgment Road isn’t necessarily paranormal (it has a few touches of it here and there) but instead it was a full-on motorcycle romance. I should warn readers that this will be a tough story to get through at times due to the hero’s horrific upbringing in Russia and the PTSD he suffers from as an adult. It honestly shattered my heart. Our heroine didn’t have it any easier as a former street kid, either. Read More

Ugh, I really wanted to love this...
Overall: painstakingly average
Audiobook: 5 star Jim Frangione performance
Story: interesting concept, but not gripping enough
Took to long for me to finish; not a good thing.
Christine's writing style and Jim's narration didn't mesh well with this story concept at all.

This was my first book by Christine Feehan and I'm not sure it was the best one to start with. From the naive heroine to the unlikeable hero to the lack of history/context, this was just a bit too much of, well, everything. I usually love MC/Biker books, but this one was too much of a mess for me to get into and enjoy.

I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book. But I loved it. The characters had depth, and boy did I feel bad what they went through as children.

Look, this book isn't good. That being said, I did read most of it in one evening

Overall I liked the story. What I didn't like about it was the way Reaper treated Anya. I don't like that he dictated when they would be done. I probably would have walked out after the first time when he walked out the room without saying anything. Then he did it a second time. Finally he stood with his club while Absinthe raped her mind? I don't know if I'll continue with the series if this is the way all the brothers will treat their women.

An excellent book but absolutely heartbreaking. I sobbed my way through it. Lots of really tough topics and scenes.

This was a hard book for me to rate. Things happened in it that I have serious issues with, and tried to put my own issues away to enjoy the story. I did finish it and am curious about what happens in the next book and that will determine wether or not I continue future books of the series. The characters were well written and had great development and it did keep me engaged. Do I reccommend it? I am no sure, I would say carefully and it depends what kind of things you can handle while reading it.
