Cassandra Clare doesn't disappoint! I have always been a fan of her books. I love her vocabulary and style, and most of all, her amazing characters. Every single one of her characters has a deep backstory that somebody can relate to. She is a writer of forbidden love, and there definitely lots of that in this. This book is a lot darker than her other 2 series, and more racy. Emma is a wild character with a troubled past, which is why I love her so much. If I wrote a book, I would want my main female to be like Emma. While Clare's female leads are strong females, they usually are sort of weak physically. I loved that Emma was not that way. She was a great female character who is deeply flawed, but so intriguing to read about. Clare also doesn't shy away from everyday issues. She has been known to have LGBT characters in her past books, but in this book we are introduced to her first possibly autistic character. As a teacher, I think the idea of having an autistic character, who doesn't quite know he is, is amazing and totally necessary. Kids who struggle with this, need a character to relate to, so bravo Clare.
The book does start off slow, and it takes a while to get into, but about halfway through is when things start to get interesting. The plot takes a great turn and it will leave you begging for the next book. The reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because her characters are a little repetitive throughout series. You see reoccurring personalities just with slight differentiation. Also, I felt like the book was a little too long. There were parts that were really slow and I didn't feel were super necessary to the book. All in all, a really good read and another hit from Cassandra Clare.

it took me a little while to get into this one but it was still so good i’m emotional.
i grew to love so many of the characters (except for perfect diego he’s kind of annoying), especially ty and cristina. needed more magnus but i assumed he wouldn’t really be in this series so i guess it’s fine.
the representation in this was such a plus as well and didn’t feel like it was forced or pushed aside like it often can in other books.
and GIRL that epilogue. i’m shook. i hate that term but it’s pretty accurate for how i’m feeling at the moment. shook.
4.25 stars

This was one of my favourite books when I was 15 and after rereading it again the magic is still there. I love everything about it, the nostalgia, the yearning between the main characters. Emma’s strength and Julian’s fierce love and loyalty for his family.
her books are fantastic. I didn't love the clockwork series as much as Shadowhunters. this book did not disappoint!!!!
