1933 Italy, Amory and Milo Ames are on holiday when he receives a letter from Madame Nanette, his childhood nanny. They travel on to Paris only to find that Madame's employer, Helios Belanger, is dead and she suspects that he has been killed. Amory and Milo decide to investiage, though Amory as times seemed to be hindered by Milo's behaviour.
An enjoyable, well-written likeable mystery, which can easily be read as a stand-alone book in the series.

This was an enjoyable continuation to the Amory series. I feel like we might be getting closer to understanding why Milo acts the way he does... not a cozy mystery but definitely not a thriller. Maybe the best description is a gentle female investigator.

Amory and Milo stop through Paris on their way home from an Italian getaway to check in on Milos childhood Nanny who is concerned about her current boss’ mysterious death. A dysfunctional family with a perfumery fortune with many possible murderers... Amory flits around Paris trying to solve the mystery. Once again she suspects her husband isn’t being faithful, but once again it’s all part of his investigation plan... a repetitive story but enjoyable enough to keep going.

The title of this book is perfect. I also love the continued development of Milo and Amory Ames relationship story. Learning some of Milo and his childhood and getting the perspective of his nanny helped get a better idea of his character. The mystery was great and a lot of fun and I should’ve stayed with my first hunch because it was right, just on the wrong villain. I look forward to the continuance of this series. They are a lot of fun and I love the nuances of their marriage.

The way Milo treats her drives me nuts. But it looks like the author might be making him a spy. We will see. Still, it’s a nice cozy mystery.

Milo and Amory are probably my favorite fictional married couple. I cannot get enough of them. This novel's plot was more adventurous than the mysteries, but I still loved it.

9/9/19 I re-read a book! This never happens! I love this so this is still 5-stars.

When Milo receives a letter from his childhood nanny saying that she can't visit them as previously planned, he knows her well enough to know that something isn't right He and Amory are soon off to Paris to see what might be wrong with his nanny and her current employers, a family of wealthy perfumiers. Milo's instincts turn out to be correct when the patriarch of the family turns up dead.

The "who" in this who-done-it is pretty obvious and the "why" is unexpectedly out of left field but at least the book fully owns this as Amory voices both sentiments herself. In any case, the win-win of these books isn't the mysteries but rather the back-and-forth banter of Amory and Milo. While I'm definitely starting to believe that my early theory about Milo is incorrect, darn it, this book does offer some more insight into Milo's childhood, which is nice.

Another fun and easy mystery from Agley Weaver! I really enjoy that the Amory Ames books are smart, and not silly, like so many cozy mysteries are. If you enjoy cozies and/or historical fiction, be sure to check this series out!
