This book was given to me as a gift and I managed to finish it during covid 19 lockdown.

It's one of my first 'who dunnit' books that's not a Sherlock Holmes novel. I found this to be an easy read in a 'cosy crime' style.

I really enjoyed it and followed along the story at a good pace. Even though its the 3rd in the series I don't feel like I missed out particularly by not reading the first ones as it filled in quite a bit of the back story as it went along. The majority was it's own stand alone storyline which I was able to get into from the start and got to the grips with all of the individual characters pretty quickly.

Being based in the 30s was an added bonus as I do love a bit of vintage. I found it easy to picture all the styles and trends of that time with the good descriptions.

I was on point with guessing who *really* did it in the end but I didn't foresee the reason why correctly at all. The twists and turns at the very end in the reveal did take me by surprise which I liked, but there was no way of guessing the reasons behind it all on your own as I don't think I recognised any tell tale signs throughout.

All in all though, I enjoyed this book and would probably give more who dunnit novels a try because of it.

adventurous emotional mysterious fast-paced

It was a bit of a slow start for me, but I enjoyed learning more about Milo's childhood and the art of creating a perfume.

"When Amory Ames's husband Milo receives a troubling letter from his childhood nanny, Madame Nanette, the couple travel to Paris where they become embroiled in a mystery surrounding the death of a famous parfumier. Helios Belanger died suddenly, shortly before the release of his new, highly anticipated perfume, and Madame Nanette, who works for his family, is convinced that her employer's death was not due to natural causes. The more Amory and Milo look into the motives of industry rivals and the Belanger heirs who are vying for control of his perfume empire, the more they are convinced that Madame Nanette may be right. When secrets unfold and things take a dangerous turn, Amory and Milo must work quickly to uncover the essence of the matter and catch a killer before the scent goes cold."

A great mystery with an excellent twist at the end!

The fourth in the Amory Ames cosy mystery series, which has seen many ups and downs in her marriage to rakish Milo. Unfortunately, I find it difficult to continue caring about poor Amory, hoping for Milo to support her and love her as she deserves, after this novel set in Paris. For much of the book I wanted Amory to punch him in the face for keeping secrets from her “for her own protection”, even when she called him out on his behaviour. There’s some back story as to why he is close-guarded with his feelings and for his chauvinistic need (though historically apt) to protect the women in his life. However, I just felt that Amory had to do too much emotional lifting because of “the way he is”. I’m over stories where women save or absolve emotionally broken men. Milo’s sexy charms seem to make Amory forgive him for endangering her life and his deliberate obfuscations that meant she wasted a lot of effort on investigating red herrings.

This is the 4th book in this mystery series, featuring well-to-do English couple Amory Ames and her handsome husband, Milo, set in the 1930s. In this installment, Milo is asked by his beloved former nanny to investigate the mysterious death of her current employer. The couple head to Paris where they meet members of the Belanger family, famous for their perfumes. I did not find this mystery as enjoyable as others in the series (it was rather confusing), but it's always a pleasure to spend time with Amory and Milo.

enjoyed listening to this book

The mystery was good, the relationship has taken two steps back.
