This series is going to kill me. A beautiful and haunting short story.

Loved this wee look into Arin's life as a child. And the folk tale was great as well.

1. Amazing bedtime story!
2. Arin as a kid was adorable; I know have a soft spot for him.
3. This definitely made me excited to read The Winner's Crime.
4. The writing was beautiful.
5. Short, but really sweet.

Oh, wow. As if I didn't have a love for fairy tales already, Marie Rutkoski wrote an extraordinary tale about love and loss which I couldn't help but adore. Her beautiful writing style shows through, and made me experience more emotions in fourteen pages than I usually do with actual novels.
Complete with heart-wrenching flashforwards and one of the most important life lessons of them all, Bridge of Snow is highly recommended for those who loved The Winner's Curse.
“She looked at the boy. He knew her weakness for storytelling. And it was, after all, only a story. Still, she wished he had chosen a happier one.”

I'd forgotten that this tiny novella existed, until I was scrolling through my to-read shelf last night. Thankfully this is available online - you can read it at https://www.tor.com/2014/01/28/bridge-of-snow-marie-rutkoski/ - so I took a few minutes to read through it today, and it's almost achingly beautiful, and sets up The Winner's Trilogy extremely well. It's been years since I've read the series, but it was truly one of my all-time favorites, and getting this little glimpse of tiny Arin before everything in his world crashed down made me smile and feel sad at the same time. I think it's time I gave his story a reread, no?

Arin's mother narrates a nice bed time story and tells a secret...
