4.5/5 stars. Okay not being aa huge RE fan but I have played a few of their games and enjoyed the help. Specially thanks to Derek who has been a great help. But I don't remember one person in the game and maybe it is just me being forgetful but was Rebecca. But she did make it interesting I am wondering is she was with Chris in the first game if you played his story. I kind of like learning about the back story of some of the characters special Jill. I didn't find it as nerve racking as playing the games but it still had that edge to it in some spots. Specially near that end when the count down started.

Hey, it’s basically a novelization of the game, so it’s what you probably expected.

As a fan of the Resident Evil games, it's neat to get more insight into the characters and their motivations as you follow them through the plot of the first game. The writing was good and the descriptions of the enemies and atmosphere was spooky and visceral. However, I don't feel that I gained much from reading this story in addition to playing it. I started to get bored as the characters moved through the mansion, knowing exactly what was around each corner. I think this book suffered from adhering too strictly to the game, down to even the key items and puzzles, without taking creative liberties to spice things up. This is just a story better played than read.

Book of the game, does just what you want, though I wish they wouldn't keep talking about 'movie zombies.'

3.5 rounded up. An easier read than Zero Hour, but also these novelizations are just reminding me why video game movies are such a hard sell. Episodic narrative structures centered around changing set pieces and experiences that don't translate well to non-interactive mediums make for WEIRD experiences in traditional formats. It works better with novels, though.

Also! Wesker can choke.
