So, this isn't a very good place to start reading about Constantine. I was extremely lost
I understand now the mixed reviews. Constantine lives in a really interesting world, the noir narration by Delano has some very exquisite metaphors and at many times they evoke smells and sounds, wonderful!
Yes there are some politic moments that gets boring, but also because of lack of context. I'm a Venezuela living in Berlin in the 2010's; I have no idea about the Thatcher era.
The world in which Constantine lives is quite interesting and the twisted people in it is quite real. If you are reading this and you are thinking about only buying this Paperback: Buy it but also get the 2nd one, as the end of the arc is on the next book.
I will definitely keep reading, even with its lows Constantine is a really complex character that makes you get invested on whatever is happening. You will have WTF moments and also WTH moments, but it's with reading.

I read an older collection of these first stories a long time ago before they standardized the Hellblazer trade collections. These first issues drop you right into Constantine’s world and what a world it is. As a character he is both cunning and craven, foolish and foolishly brave, smartest man in the room and his own worst enemy. For 80’s era horror comics, this is still pretty stern stuff. Recommended.
