Well written for a family story but it just didn't go anywhere. Closure was lacking but nice characterisation.

Not nearly as good as the old Anne Tyler books that I loved. She's a great plainspoken writer and these are more of her plainspoken characters. She's great at illuminating the small stories of ordinary lives. I just didn't love these particular characters or their problems.

I've never read something that felt so pointless. Every moment dragged and I wish I hadn't made myself read it. Save yourself the time and just don't!!

I tried. It's Anne Tyler; it's supposed to be great, right? Not for me at all. I found it to be a story with no purpose, no ending, no message. But then I skimmed the last half so maybe I missed out on a great epiphany. I love a good book and a story that takes you someplace. This story took me to lemmings falling into the sea. And a reminder to stop taking reviews as gospel and to not assume accomplished authors will always turn out great books.
