Crushing It!
.
We have seen a tremendous surge in business, be it of any kind, in the last two decades. With this growth comes the companion-competition. When this is a boon for the economy, it's not the same for a new entrepreneur. The time that a new enterprise takes to reach the break-even point has increased to twice or three the earlier and many quits trying before that.
When it comes to growing your business, nothing would be more beneficial than one's contacts\reach. And that's where this book becomes useful

I became a Gary V fan reluctantly. As a general rule, I keep my language fairly clean. His prolific use of the F-word in his videos drowned out the message of his content. I still don’t approve of how much he swears, but, I have really become a huge fan of some of the common themes he preaches; mainly enthusiastic positivity and personable accountability.
Crushing It was a little too “how to be an influencer” for me, but, I guess I’m kind of old school. There is definitely something in here for most people. Especially, those who are starting a business or following their passion.
My notes from the reading:
“If you are earning what you need to live the life you want and loving every day of it, you’re crushing it. That’s all I want for you.”
“There is so much in life that is uncontrollable but our happiness does not have to be, nor do our careers. We can have all the control—every damn bit of it. The sooner we realize that the better off we’ll be.”
“The only thing stopping you from achieving lasting career and life happiness is you.”
The 8 essentials to building a strong personal brand:
* Inent - WHY matters more than HOW I’m business. Entrepreneurs at the pinnacle of success and influence share a commitment to service, the desire to provide value, and a love of teaching.
* Authenticity - Your intent will be reflected in your authenticity. You will be 1000X more successful if you wake up eager to share and create something because you believe the world will enjoy it rather than because you have calculated that this is what you need to do to become an Instagram celebrity.
* Passion - there is no point to trying to become an entrepreneur without passion. Passion is protective, it helps carry you through the inevitable hard times of staring a business.
* Patience - passion and patience go hand-in-hand; to live in line with your passion you’ll probably need to go slower than you want to and say no more than you say yes. “You’re only crushing it if you’re living entirely on your own terms.”
* Speed - Patience is for the long term, speed is for the short term. The pressure that builds between the two is what forms the diamond. The pressure that builds between the two produces the diamond. You need to constantly be in ‘do’ mode. And don’t worry about what people think; failing is how you learn.
* Work - there is no time for leisure if you have massive ambition. Take care of family and your health but there is no time for YouTube videos or shooting the shit in the break room.
* Attention - always be aware of new trends.
* Content - a great piece content is the result of passion plus expertise. Any success you achieve will be predicated on the quality of your content.
But every excuse under the sun will try to stop you. You HAVE to get into “do mode” to have a chance to succeed.
“Misogyny, racism, and bigotry are very real problems but they are not the reason why you are not crushing it yet. You’re the reason why you are not crushing it yet.”
3 types of fear that keep people from doing what they want to do:
* Fear of Failure - Stop writing about what people think. People who are afraid of failure will always set their goals lower than they need to. No one who ever played it safe ever made it big.
* Fear of wasting time - if you’re under the age of 35, this isn’t even an issue. You can always go back to the practical world if you stink or hate what you’re doing. If you’re not 100% happy with the way your life is today, it’s never a waste of time to try to do something that can get you there.
* Fear of seeming vain - everyone is an ass until they’re a pioneer.

I love the way Vaynerchuk gets his ideas across. Amazing resource for anyone doubting themselves. It discusses all major social media platforms and building an audience, getting it right, getting it wrong and learning from it. I really liked the personal stories of people who were energized and inspired by the first book that came out some years ago and ended up achieving success on several different levels.
In the end, it's all about giving real value to people and then learning to monetize it.
"Document, don't create."
----> perhaps the most brilliant realisation in the book. Learning to do the thing you love IS the content, especially if it's from step one. You don't have to wait ten years to be "good enough".

I love the breakdown of each social platform though each of the stories basically says their business changed once they read crush it. It might have though it's repetitive. I think it's very wise to build your own brand and use a few platforms. Though I don't think you should stress yourself out using too many.
I liked the book, but I feel this is advice to aspiring Social Media stars, and less to business owners. I get it, audience + relevance = leads, but what business owner has the time to do all this? It did give me some great ideas!
* I will have to read this again before I give a review. A lot of understanding and learning to do in this book.
If I had made a drinking game for every time he referenced his other books, I would be dead.
I did get some good information from this but it was annoying to get through.

One of the books that got me into the world of non-fiction.
Collection of stories on how people used 'Crush it' book to develop their personal brands and their business. Followed up by updates to the new platforms that we can use in this period of time to develop our business or brand.
The stories were good and interesting. Thank god, this wasn't so much preachy like 'Crush it'.
That's how you do it. Let people's story speak rather you yourself preaching your ideologies.
Recommended to anyone looking for the right platform to build their passion on.
