As a welder diving off an oil rig, Jack Joseph is well accustomed to the underwater pressure at the bottom of the ocean. He is less able to deal with the pressure of being soon to become a father. His deep dives seem to be tied to escaping his problems, but then things begin to happen. I don’t usually get on with graphic novels, but this one was quite special with the words and art work combining to great effect. Well worth the time!

This was one of the most beautiful and powerful pieces of fiction I’ve had the pleasure to read. The emotions I felt and how strongly I related to the themes of this book made me feel like I just finished a really tough therapy session rather than just having read a graphic novel. I would say to brace yourself for tears if you have any sort of complex issues that stem from one of your parents.

Okay. Huh. So didn't like the art but didn't hate it. Didn't like the story and really not the characters. This was dark and semi-pointless. But readable? Was it good? Not really. Even the idea of the underwater welder was kind of a dodge, it didn't really matter what our pov character did. Reall, whatever.

I wanted to like this more than I did, but nevertheless it enjoys strong characters and an engaging story. The themes are handled expertly and the ultimate conclusion is strongly executed. On paper I should have really loved it, but I found the journey didn't really live up to the conclusion. That said, it's still very much worth a read.
