I feel a little guilty giving an Anne book a 3-star rating, but this installment really didn't live up to the previous three books in my opinion. This is the book I remember getting stuck on when I tried to read through the whole series when I was a teen (I distinctly remember this cover staring up at me accusingly from my nightstand for months!), and I almost gave up here again... but I really want to finally reach the next "chapter" of Anne's life so I persisted this time.

Not enough Gilbert, too many new characters that only are there for a chapter or too, and somehow a little boring because every chapter is just a repetition of Anne fixing someone's life. The letter/3rd person format didn't really bother me, but I would have loved to have read Gilbert's letters as well.

That being said, the writing is still really beautiful, particularly when describing the PEI scenery, the changing seasons, or peaceful strolls in an old graveyard.

This novel is semi epistolary in structure, as a large portion of it is made up of letters. Although I had read this once years ago, I was curious to see how this was done since I didn't remember much from that previous read. And I must say I liked it quite a bit.

It was nice to be inside of Anne's head in her letters to Gilbert and hear her thoughts about some of the adventures she had in her life as the principle at a new school in a new town. It also kept the reader closer to story lines from previous books, since Anne was writing to Gilbert and frequently mentioned their shared friends in Avonlea, since most of them made little to no appearance in the rest of the novel.

I don't know a lot about L. M. Montgomery, but I assume this was her experimenting with various narrative styles and I think it worked out very well. Another solid addition to the Anne series.

The audio for this was narrated by Tara Ward. It took me a little while to get used to her narration, as her voice did not fit the story quite as well as the previous narrator's, but I did end up enjoying her reading very much.

Anne and Gilbert are finally together! Let's celebrate by...writing a book in which they are never in the same scene and all action is played out entirely through letters? What was Montgomery thinking?

Snooze.

Part of the Anne of Green Gables series. This is my favorite children's series.

Good book, you got to read it, if you read the first three, its truly a soft happy book.:D

I think possibly the funniest part of this book was when Anne was in the right frame of mind for a love letter, and then a ridiculous number of pages would be omitted. Like, Anne, what kind of scandalous detail are you putting in your letters such that they are unsuitable for publication? Other than that, there was a disappointing lack of Gilbert, so I can only give it 4/5

This one is not my favourite. It's told mostly through letters sent during Anne's time in Summerside. Most of this book centres around new characters so I missed my old favourites.
