I don’t think I’ll continue reading the series. The plot just doesn’t do it for me, and the romance doesn’t feel natural.

The endings of every book in this series are designed to put shock paddles to my heart, beat it into a pulp, and basically put me in a trauma coma. Why do I like to hurt myself so? Ooh don’t open that door. Exaggeration? You go and read it then and see if you remain that cocky 🥲 Speaking of, expect tons of spoilers for the previous books even though I’ll try to keep this book from my churning emotions. Onward.

Not gonna lie, once I got over the shock of the previous ending, I moved on to being incredibly frustrated with Orlaith for her questionable decision making. I mean, *BIG SPOILER HERE* who unalives the love of their life who is also their guardian who is responsible for their entire existence at the first sign of doubt sowed by a slimy foreign man who you don’t even trust in the first place? Also did you not realize the t0rture dungeon that man showed you to sow said doubt is under HIS OWN city? ORLAITH! Common sense! Overall her decision making was akin to that of a 10 year old (you’ll see). See Rhordyn this is what happens when you don’t arm your ward with the most important currency of all. Information! How will she know to protect herself if you don’t trust her with the tools to do so dammit?!

This is where lies the rub. Orlaith was not prepared by the people who raised her at all for what possibly lay in her future. And she made the best (or worst) of the situation when she did break out of her comfort zone. It was painful and shattering, but she grew into a magnificent creature. Albeit with a lot of bad decisions on the way. And daddy Rhordyn was also doing his best to protect his Milaje, to keep her as long as possible from the claws of fate. Now that I’m done with my tirade, I can admit I understand why they did what they did, frustrating as it was to watch them suffer unnecessarily.

I spent the first half of the book both yelling at them and in pain for their pain, my bälls getting progressively bluer, waiting for the moment of reunion. The Rhorlaith dynamic has always been almost primitive in its intensity, but this time it’s more primal, more visceral than ever. The tension is so excruciatingly exquisite, I was parched with the need to see them to fight and fck. Which you’ll see if they do. The words that spill from their very souls for each other are raw and potent and like the lines to a most heartbreaking song. Daddy Rhor going all growly over her every move is a recipe for goosebumps all over.

I didn’t see a lot of things coming that happened in this book (I mean that one thing at the end 😦), but one thing we knew since day one (you know you did) is confirmed at last and makes matters that much more interesting for the future. I was glad the Kai storyline moved along better this time and Zykanth is my favorite little monster. Baze’s story continues to get more heartbreaking and I’m almost as invested in his HEA as I am in Rhorlaith’s.

This 3rd book was as good as the first two in the series. It as reaffirmed my obsession over this series.
Special mention to the romantic tension in this book. As in the previous installments, it was thick and sizzling and exquisite.
The author also played with my emotions and put me on a rollercoaster.
We got many answers, but many new questions emerged. We end again on a cliffhanger, but I have no regrets and will wait for the next book eagerly.
Note to self: I should have done a reread before picking this one up when it released.
AMAZING. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
And you must read the first two books before getting to this one.
It's written in 1st person and it's told from multiple povs.
