The illustrations were gorgeous and really well detailed, though the in-between sketches were less detailed. The story was really well plotted, with excellent world building, good pacing, and a slow, gradual reveal of the secrets. Sometimes the text was confusing to follow, with so many extra notes and small text jottings in between the panels. I love how it builds up the butler duties, slowly going from the expected to the extraordinary. And the relationship between Ciel and Sebastian is beautiful, especially after the ring incident.
I can't wait to read more.

No words can explain how attractive I find Sebastian to be. It's the personality, and the way he is drawn so beautifully. Every scene he was in, he was the one I was focusing on.
There was not too much of interest going on at the beginning of the volume - as it was all rather disjointed in the direction it was going in - but the second half of the book, and especially the fight scene in chapter 4, brought back the excitement. It was drawn fluidly and it had my full attention. Seeing a normally composed man let loose is invigorating to read.
I didn't care too much for the other staff, and I found them to be slightly annoying due to them continually being incompetent at their jobs (how did they get hired anyway?). I like Ciel Phantomhive enough, and I would like to know where the plot progresses next.

Honestly this is a manga everyone should read. It is just that good.
I grew up watching the anime adaptation of this manga. Only recently I've had the motivation to read the manga to some anime I've watched in the past. A friend told me to read this since the story is vastly different from the anime (especially the second season...). I love the art of this. Sebastian is even more handsome than I could have expected. This first volume is more like a collection of vignettes to establish the atmosphere of the Phantomhive estate and to introduce the mysteriousness of Sebastian Michaelis and his sordid contract with Ciel Phantomhive. I'm excited to start the Jack the Ripper arc! Hope the second volume leads into it!
