We love a lil Caribbean folklore!

A Carribean-folklore-inspired fantasy for kids featuring mysterious creatures known as "jumbies," of which there are apparently several distinct sorts (rather like saying "faerie" might mean anything from elves to redcaps to leprechauns to pixies) - very cool!

Cute story. Very creepy. I gave it a three because as an adult I’m not the target audience and didn’t enjoy it the way I probably would’ve as a kid.

The Jumbies is a fun middle grade novel rooted in Caribbean mythology. It highlights the importance of family and friendship and bravery, while giving just enough scary vibes to be a great introduction to the horror genre for this age.

Amazing Caribbean folklore story where you get to meet all kinds of fae creatures that show up in Caribbean and Haitian tales- including the fearsome *jumbies*. This was an easy and fast-paced read that had me wondering what was going to happen next for our lovely Corrine. It has magic, friendships, island life, and a good dose of spooky- a perfect book for any middle-grade reader.

PERFECT!! Extremely satisfying from beginning to end!! The jumbies (trick-loving, sneaky, mean creatures) were perfectly terrifying, with all the excitement and suspense that the child in me finds thrilling (and really unsettling at times)! I loved the fairy-tale feeling in the prose and movement of the plot. I also loved the characters. Corinne was a fabulous protagonist and her relationship with her father was beautiful. I absolutely adored everything about this book! It was short and sweet, and was paced perfectly to match. It was fun, it was inspiring, it was heart-warming and exciting. It didn't take more than a couple hours to read. I also think it was fun to read this book since it was inspired by folk tales from Trinidad! I love folk tales and old stories from all cultures.

This book was everything I had hoped it would be! Super fun! Recommended for someone who wants to read a beautifully crafted fairy-tale about really creepy creatures, magic, loyalty and love. It's great for a wide range of ages, probably from late middle-grade/young adult and up. PLEASE READ IT IT'S MARVELOUS!

I enjoyed this one. I thought the second half was better than the first. I just wasn't invested in the characters.

Nothing wrong with it. Just not for me.
