Another fun Scott Harvath adventure. Some nice twists and turns in and the action was non-stop like usual.

Really fun book for fans of Thrillers and Conspiracies and another great edition to an already great series. Backlash continues the Scott Harvath series and leaves you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. Every time I felt I could relax something else happened that would increase my heart rate. The book is another one night read and worth the purchase!

After the events in Spy Master, and the huge cliffhanger that Thor threw at us, and knowing the wait for the next book involved. There was a heck of a high mountain to climb for Thor and his creation Harvath. But, I have to tell you WOW! was the wait worth it.

At the end of Spy master, there is a clandestine meeting with Lydia Ryan, heir apparent to Reed Carlton and The Carlton Group, Harvath and his lady, Lara. The last thing we experience in that book is Lara yelling at Harvath to run... Duh, duh duuhhhh!
Cliffhanger.

Spoiler alert....

We find out in Back Lash that Harvath is kidnapped by Russian Spetznatz and all of the others are killed. While being smuggled out of the US, Harvath is tortured and beaten, but as luck would have it, the military transport that he is flying on, loses control in a bad winter storm. dur to faulty equipment and crashes in the middle of Russian nowhere. Harvath survives and has to make his way to freedom in the blistering cold and in his poor condition.

What follows is a chase through inhospitable wilderness, that will keep you turning the pages. With the help of some local people , Harvath has to get to the Finnish border or meet his team enroute, all the while dodging a Russian guerilla force that is under strict orders from the President of Russia himself to not let him get away..

By far one of the most outstanding books in the series, which has had many.

BACKLASH - Great Read for followers of the life and times of Scot Harvath, patriot superhero, lethal, unstoppable, invincible ... avenging criminal espionage originating in the prior open-ending SPYMASTER … with a singlehanded takedown of the entire Russian covert assassination corps, scalp by scalp from bottom to top. Classic Brad Thor thriller storytelling, detailing all factors, faces, forces, weapons, tools, technology, tactics during impossible, insurmountable, unsurvivable, and usual incredible events … that all may be reality …

Excellent suspense filled book with the infamous Harvath. His escape from a crashed plane where he was being taken to Russia. The book walks you through his many failed attempts in trying to make his way out of Russia with former spetsnats on his tail.

OK thriller, but with some internal inconsistencies that made me laugh (and wonder) from time to time. Billed as a "survival" novel as much as an adventure thriller, but there was very little realistic about survival in it. Within the author's plot, there was much opportunity to have brought in significant wilderness survival knowledge, but it was almost nonexistent.
SpoilerInstead, the main character seemed to survive mostly by finding things - a remote cabin with a dead trapper, a helpful (and beautiful!) woman who just happened to be a nurse who spoke English (in the middle of Russian wilderness, no less), and other such saving, but completely unrealistic, artifacts.
It was a terrific opportunity to showcase real survival skills and knowledge, but it didn't happen.

Brad Thor does it again!

If you have not read SpyMaster, read it first. All of the Scot Harvath novels can be read separate and enjoyed, but the Cliffhanger in Spy Master will bring you up to speed.

Harvath is in the fight for his life in Backlash. It seems impossible, but if anyone can it's Scot. Reading Backlash, it's almost like a season of 24. The whole book takes course over just a few days, but not stop action keeps you engaged from the first page to the very end.

I'm not one to finish a book in a single setting, but I did finish in 3 days. One of Brad Thor's best. He just keeps getting better.
