This is a fantastic, short book that you could probably read in a day. It's definitely creepier than the movie (with more detail), but except for a few moments near the end they line up very closely. 5-stars because, despite how short it is, it grabs your attention and keeps it throughout with well-written descriptions, witty dialogue, and just enough detail to give you a mental image of the events while leaving much to the imagination and interpretation of the reader.
Read for the Pioneer Book Challenge. It was definitely creepy, but still a fun adventure. I've never seen the movie so don't know how to compare.
I thought the parallel worlds were very interesting. I loved that she won and was smart, creative, braze, and ingenious throughout.
But the Other Mom was SO creepy. I also don't think the hand is going to stay in the well...its a hand! its going to be able to crawl out!! So I'll have nightmares of that for a while.

Coraline es un libro corto y aun así increíble. Llevaban años recomendandome al autor y con este libro ha conseguido entrar por la puerta grande.
La película me encantaba pero es que el libro es otra cosa, una trama sencilla llena de elementos del terror y fantasía que consiguen provocarte terror, ternura y emoción en solo 155 páginas. Hay que ser muy grande como escritor para conseguir eso.
Volvería a leerlo y desde luego volveré a leer libros de Neil Gaiman

Creo que haber visto la peli antes de leer el libro hizo que aumentara mis expectativas. Sigue siendo una gran historia, aunque esperaba más detalles.

As someone who watched the movie before reading the book. It was interesting to see what was similar to the other vs what was changed, added and left out. And since I watched coraline first I was a little heart brocken my favorite character (after coraline) Wybie wasn't even written in the story to begin with. I did really enjoy marking down anything that I feel is foreshadowing a future moment in the story.
3.75: really fun book and different enough from the movie that it was still interesting to read. I think i do prefer the movie bc they had more time to develope the charactors and that it took coraline more time to become suspisous (also i did like the idea in the book that simply having the stone on her made her less suseptable to the belldams tricks, it was a fun easter egg)
