I listened to the audiobook while sick in bed and having Neil Gaiman tell me a spooky story genuinely made me feel so much better.

I think I like the movie more but that’s more a testament to how incredible the movie is than an indictment on this book, because this such a great read.

Coraline, by Neil Gaiman, is the story of a young girl, newly moved into a big house, who spends most of her time searching for ways to entertain herself. She meets her neighbors, a cat, and a door, which when opened, is bricked over. Sometimes, however, this door leads elsewhere; to an oddly parallel world with strange alterations.

This is the second time I've read this book and I loved it more than I did last time. The story is fresh and imaginative, and the characters are unforgettable. It's easy to become lost in the story, and before you know it, it's all over.

I would recommend this book to anyone as it manages to appeal to readers of all ages. I expect to find myself rereading this one every few years.

More middle-grade horror.

I like how it’s a little different from the movie. No wybie!!

It's pretty freaky, but it's really fascinating.

I really enjoyed this book, especially coming from knowing the movie so well. It's definitely a darker and more grotesque vibe than the movie throughout. Also, as an audiobook, you get to hear Neil Gaiman narrating it himself!

This story is so simple and terrifying. The fear it evokes made me feel like a little kid again. It may just be that this story used to terrify me, and that this fear is being carried into the present. But there are lots of things that used to scare me and don't anymore. I think it is rather (or in large part) Gaiman's strength as an author that he could craft such an ageless, but specifically aged story. Go read it if you're wanting the spooks!

Had I read this book first I might have given it 5-stars, but The Ocean at the End of the Lane was more masterful. The two books are very similar. You have a young child at the center of the story who doesn't quite fit in, prone to exploring, uninterested parents, evil otherworldly "woman", magical guides, and these magnificent dark worlds. I was completely drawn into these books. While they are short books, Gaiman tells a gigantic story in these few pages.
