I’ve always loved this movie, I’ve seen it so many times but have never read the book! I recently got a kindle and downloaded it this morning- I finished it in a day and loved it! It’s definitely one I’ll read again
What a deliciously creepy book. This is a book that will creep out adults much more than it will children. Neil Gaiman wrote:
It was a story, I learned when people began to read it, that children experienced as an adventure, but which gave adults nightmares. It's the strangest book I've written, it took the longest time to write, and it's the book I'm proudest of.
Coraline is bored. Neglected by her parents who have work to do. Forced to eat recipes. Pushed to explore all by her lonesome, she finds another world through a little door/tunnel. In this world she has an "other" mother and father. AND THEY FREAKED ME THE HELL OUT.
"I swear it," said the other mother. "I swear it on my own mother's grave." "Does she have a grave?" asked Coraline. "Oh yes," said the other mother. "I put her in there myself. And when I found her trying to crawl out, I put her back."
Her eyes were big black buttons.
Guess what I found in my daughter's room.

Now guess who doesn't find black button eyes to be CUTE anymore.
Coraline is imaginative, quirky, fun, and a teeny (a lot) bit frightening. It has a CAT. I love cats. I love this cat perhaps more than any cat I've ever encountered in any other book.
There was something irritatingly self-centered about the cat, Coraline decided. As if it were, in its opinion, the only thing in any world or place that could possibly be of any importance.
Calling cats," it confided, "tends to be a rather overrated activity. Might as well call a whirlwind.
This is typical Gaiman with every line being pure perfection. It's one of his best, and one of my favorites (along with his short stories). 5 Stars

This is a reread for me. I listen to it on audio this time to help pass time during work. Nice quick read that’s always a favorite.

meu deus que livro maravilhoso! mesmo ja tendo assistido ao filme (claro) eu me surpreendi com o livro. confesso que chorei no final. so de imaginar essa menina passando por tudo que ela passa completamente sozinha me aperta o coração.
It was interesting in the beginning but it got very confusing towards the middle..The challenge was not very interesting and she found everything very easily.. It did not feel like an actual challenge while reading.. The ending was fine.. Overall the book was average...
its not bad, i read it quickly bc i had to for book club lmao. so i read it in less than 2 hrs so i might reread to see if it better
I find it very odd for a 40-something adult to rate a children’s book, so I won’t give a star rating for this one. I am one of the few people who has not seen the movie, so I cannot compare the book and the movie. Regardless, I really liked the book. I am a fan of Neil Gaiman’s writing and this one did not disappoint. I’m sure I would’ve loved it even more as a child.
Entretenido y nada tenebroso..
La película le da un aire de misterio mucho más grande...
En fin espero volver a ver la peli después
Neil Gaiman como siempre no desepciona
