This is by far one of my favorite reads of the year so far. It gives off an RL Stine Fear Street vibe (which holds a special place in my heart) mixed in with some gore and brutality. The plot twist was great and the last thing I expected. The only criticism I have is I wish that we got some closure with Howie’s dad. I would’ve loved to see his cold heart grow two sizes after almost losing his son. All in all the book is a solid 5/5 ⭐️ I definitely recommend to anyone who loves a good creepy yet brutal book.

Because of the reviews, I was so curious about this book and this stunning cover was also very promising!

First of all, I want to say that John Durgin is absolutely talented.
It was a fun, dark and quick read with gory parts that I LOVED!

But the story was going too fast to build a right amount of tension in my opinion.

When it comes to horror stories, I’m critical about the story, characters and the feeling it gives me.

The story is written from multiple POV’s and John spend a lot of words on some characters background.
Not always necessary because of the outcome. So I asked myself often if the information was relevant to the story.

I missed some history about the coven of the town and why they did summoning a demon in the first place. I think that should be in it to make it more believable.
And because of the absence of the background story, the witch and her actions didn’t make sense to me.

So if you ask me, he should have spent more time on the background of the story.

When we talk about the characters, I can say that they were interesting, but i couldn't bond with them.

One of the main characters had a violent living environment, but it didn’t feel like it belongs to the story.

I enjoyed this story of a band of friends fighting evil. Had the feel of a mix of some good horror movies to me. The writing and story drew me in and it came to life for me. I do wish there was more explanation of what had happened 20 years ago
and the roles everyone played
