School library memories! The first volume of the Asterix comic strip series (listed as the 23rd greatest book of the 20th century by French newspaper Le Monde). The first half of the volume is more of an exposition into the world of Asterix, the Gauls and the Romans, characters get introduced (including Julius Caesar himself), as is the plot armour called magic potion. Many story points and characterisations are clearly still in their formative stages, but the humour is consistent. I can't wait to dig in to the rest of the series!
Im Vergleich zu späteren Asterix-Geschichten fast ein bisschen schwach. (Aber wenn man ihn auf Latein liest, bleiben Vokabeln hängen, die man vielleicht gebrauchen kann.)
Well - time to start reading in Finnish :)
Never read these comics before, but even with my mediocre skills in finnish, I found the jokes hilarious. I can see that the exploits of this little gaul and his last free town will be very interesting!

While Goscinny and Uderzo were still figuring out their characters, this first in the Asterix series is a lot of fun. It's especially a treat for Asterix fans to see the slightly less-refined characterizations, and those who are new to the series should enjoy this introduction to the members of the little Gaulish village who are still holding out against the Roman invaders -- with the help of some magic potion. The Asterix stories are full of silliness, cartoon fighting, and puns, and "Asterix the Gaul" is no exception. Despite being the first, it holds up well and is the appropriate welcome to those who wish to visit with these lovable Gauls.

Neden bu kadar sevdiğimi anlamadım ama çok eğlenceli. Böyle bir hikayeyi çizgi romanlaştırmak ve insanlara sevdirmek büyük başarı.
By Toutatis! Asterix and Getafix land the Romans in a spot of bother in a 'hair'-raising adventure.
