This one was creepier than I was expecting, can't say I'm a massive fan of involving small children (even if they are annoying canonically). The joker's identity escaped me for almost the entire book, although the mastermind behind The Scheming was an easier conclusion. I'm hoping to see more of some of the characters , and none of others. I found those who were meant to the most glamorous and reverent were plainly stupid and delusional. Some of the cultural learning however was pleasant , and of course the overcoming of sexism will always make me a little happy. Some of the mystery at the end and me questioning how it would be resolved, which is a pleasant question to experience in this type of book. Still it wasn't anything to wow me, hence the rating

We are finally concluding the Roaring 20’s with a Gatsby-level multi-day party. While not my favorite in the series, I enjoyed the Last Best Party with Miss Fisher before 1929 was rung in. I am curious to see what happens going forward.

People don't like this one for some reason. It's not a tight, fast-paced murder mystery...but the Phryne Fisher series is about experiencing new things and lazing around and generally taking your sweet time enjoying yourself. This delivered on those points.
mysterious medium-paced

I enjoyed it but not my typical type of book. The language was a bit harder to get through, so it took me longer to read.

Very interesting overall, like all of them are, but I felt that the final confrontation with
the Joker
seemed a bit abrupt and lackluster.
They built him up so much throughout the book and had all the little end chapter bits about how he was just so crazy and skilled and slippery, but then he just gets annihilated immediately by just a regular big dude.

Fun and sexy as Phryne tends to be. An excellent reader

Phryne Fisher does it again!
