Let me start by saying, if you like reading fantasy and haven't read 'The Wicked King' by Holly Black yet, stop everything you're doing, cancel your plans—do whatever it takes—and get your hands on that book immediately. Trust me, it's worth it.

Now, let's talk about the relationship between Jude and Cardan. Oh boy, where do I even begin? It's so twisted and toxic; a 'kill me or kiss me' drama, and I am totally here for it. The burning hatred mixed with desire? It's like warm tea with honey for my literary soul. Honestly, I need more books with this kind of character dynamic, it's for sure a guilty pleasure read I am totally addicted to.

But poor Jude. That girl has been through some serious sh*t. From being force-fed faerie fruit to stabbing herself under some faerie douchebag's orders, she's basically seen it all. And don't even get me started on her little sister Taryn marrying that Locke guy. I mean, come on, Taryn, what were you thinking? Blind doesn't even begin to cover it. And letting Locke play mind games with Jude?

And then there's Cardan. Sweet, beautiful Cardan. Or should I say, sweet, beautiful, EVIL Cardan? I did not see that coming, but looking back, it's totally in character. Is he trying to protect Jude? Or maybe he's just playing some twisted faerie power game? Either way, it sets up the next book perfectly, and I cannot wait to see how it all unfolds.

And that epilogue. That moment when everybody laughs at Jude's claim to the throne of Faerie? Ouch. Even Cardan. Poor Jude. It's like a dagger to the heart. But if there's one thing Jude knows how to do, it's bounce back stronger than ever.

So here's to you, Jude Duarte, queen of Faerie (even if nobody else seems to recognize it yet). I'll be waiting with bated breath for your triumphant return in book three.

Cannot describe how amazing it is to be able to read a book that I can hold one-handed whilst my toddler pretend plays and tries to cover me in dress-up gear and attack me with her Rapunzel hair as I “parent”—that said, omg I need more of this book and would have happily traded the wrist pain necessary to wield a tome in exchange for more, more, more!

In the beginning it was pretty slow, not gonna lie. There were times I was so confused and just bored because of all the politics talk. And the main climax really comes in the second half of the book.

The romance between Jude and Cardan grows a lot deeper now and did the ending ruin me, and made me throw my book at the wall? Yes.

The betrayal… The potential war… The damn tail. I cannot process the amount of things that have happened in this book and yet I am willing to start the 3rd book right after.

It was fun, I like Cardan and I like Jude but I’m still not totally understanding their relationship?? The other spies are great and I will be finishing the series

A slow start but the pickup around the middle and race to the end with twist after twist made this an enjoyable read
