I love how Lauren Tarshis wrote this book. I love how she shares her process with the reader. I love that it is easy enough to understand without feeling dumbed down. Fantastic read.

I Survived: The American Revolution, 1776 was fantastic! Usually, the Revolutionary War bores me. I don’t know why. I like history so much, but it just isn’t my favorite time period. Tarshis definitely didn’t make this book boring! As always, she included plenty of action along with historical facts. I especially appreciated that she wrote about a subject that I knew little about. (My favorite historical fiction books always do.) Finally, I can’t complain this time about her lack of female main characters, because her last book had one! I hope that she continues to include them in her future books!

A quick historical fiction tale about an 11 yo boy that accidentally finds himself amid battle during the American revolution. Written in easy language for younger elementary kids to absorb easily & focuses on a lesser known battle from the war - The Battle of Brooklyn (aka The Battle of Long Island).

I only gave 3 stars because I wished the author had went a little deeper with explanations within the plot and time line. However I did enjoy her added facts about the Revolutionary War at the end of the book.
