I liked this better than the first one and connected better with the characters overall, but this series still doesn’t wow me. The story, romance and characterisation were all solid if not spectacular. I felt the ending was rushed and we got very little of the “what comes next”. There were several loose ends - I really would have liked to have heard more about the subplot with the FMC’s brother. I did enjoy the use of romance tropes as a way for the both the main romance and the FMC’s writing career to progress.

After reading this, I only got one question left: Where the hell do I find myself a guy like Lucas Martín???

This book was pure romance! The American Roommate Experiment by Elena Armas is the second book in the Spanish Love Deception series. It's a standalone book. Rosie is a romance author and lost her creative touch. When her best friend's cousin comes to New York they work out a plan in which Lucas helps Rosie finding her romantic touch again. What can go wrong on experimental dates, when both find each other attractive?

After reading and loving The Spanish Love Deception, I knew I had to read Elena Armas other books as well. And I fell in love with this one as well. This book is the total opposite of The Spanish Love Deception. It's slow-burn (no kissing until like page 300 or so!!), a little bit of fake-dating and incredibly romantic. Everyone needs a Lucas! He goes out of the way to make Rosie comfortable and to help her with her new book. He is the nicest. I loved reading about Lina and Aaron again. And I loved the pits and pieces of Spanish throughout the book. The book just made me feel so happy and warm.

With all my heart, I can highly recommend this book! Elena Armas is a wonderful author. This book was so romantic, I sometimes couldn't cope. It made me feel giddy. I can't wait to read her other books!

*screams in cinnamon roll*

I said Elena Armas wrote the perfect office romance. Now here she is having written the perfect cinnamon roll, slow burn, fake dating romance.

Lucas... oh Lucas. A cinnamon roll if ever I read one. So soft on Rosie and gentle with her that my heart was soaring with every single interaction. They were so unbelievably freaking precious. I just can't. I am in love with them both.

I completely lost awareness that this was unfolding over a short period of time because EA managed to put together them getting to know each other in such an efficient (that word sounds so boring but ykwim 🤣) and without anything left out or any rushing through the story.

Slow burns always get me. The tension and anticipation is just *chef's kiss*. This has spice,  but I wouldn't class it as a spicy book, but the sexual tension was off the charts regardless 👀👀👀 I was SO invested in two fictional humans that it bordered on unhealthy 🤣

I'm mortified it took me so long to getting round to reading this, but it was 10/10 worth it!!!

A slow burn book. I loved how the author “rejected” and was kind of against the couple at the end until the final few chapters where it all worked out. I loved this book and love this author. I was blushing, laughing, and talking to myself explaining parts of the book.
Definitely recommend

this was a much better read than TSLD. i liked how there was significantly less comment on the sheer size of the ML (iykyk), i liked a lot how there was more time with the characters alone together, how you could feel the connection between the characters, and how they had inside jokes. I didn't so much like the grand gestures and hallmark movie esque confessions. maybe that's just my personal preference

enjoyed every second! it was so sweet and my standards have been raise! i wish we got more from the epilogue though. i really enjoyed the switching POVs and i thought it was interesting to hear what was going on in each character's head! will probably reread when i need a sweet pick me up full of soft affection.
