The Stranger is absurd in every sense of Camus' philosophy, and it shows more and more as the story progresses and the main character Meursault is emotionally and mentally unaffected by the things happening around him.
He is not in grief at his mother's passing and funeral, he is unphased by the violence he witnesses around him, he has no sense of moral good and bad as he agrees to help Raymond, he physically desires Marie but is indifferent in feelings for her and the idea of marrying her, and he is unaffected and not remorseful at all after he ultimately kills a man, goes to prison, and stands trial.
This book is blunt and to the point in its message that there is no value in the pursuit of finding meaning in human existence, and that the inevitability for all is death.

kind of maybe a spoiler warning??
not only was this book entertaining, there was so much symbolism ingrained into the book that was not easily recognizable but very profound in the book. although it's pretty short, the story never really felt rushed and i think the pacing was really good. seeing how meursault experiences things from the first person point of view was really interesting because of how detached he is to literally everything. the commentary from this book about the meaning of life was something i've never read before because of how meursault thinks of life as completely meaningless and is completely numb he is to everything he experiences. this book also touches on how people judge others because they are not "acceptable" according to their society and their prenotions. overall, the symbolism and the themes in this book made it very fun to read and i would def recommend.

Ok this book had no business being this funny like some scenes had me cACKLING like a witch (provided I have a tendency to find the most grim books really funny). Reading this alongside failing  trying to read The Myth of Sisyphus gave me a much deeper perspective into Camus' idea of what one should do with the absurd. This is the kind of book that you could read a million research analysis on and still leave you wondering about it, and I love it.

The ending was so freaking savage I was shooketh and omg how am I suppose to get over THAT
