6/10

I was a little disappointed with this novel. I think Adriana Trigiani is an amazing writing and can really tell a story beautifully, which she does in this novel. However, the plot line is a little slow and could have used a bit more excitement to keep my attention. Also, some characters were described well, while others were easily forgettable. I wanted to know more about the main character and her childhood, but we only got bits and pieces. Also
Spoiler her love affair/marriage with Jack came out of no-where as she went from mad at him to in love too quickly.
But a nicely written story and some really good descriptions.

I really wanted to like this book, but it was just OK. The pacing was off, and felt all over the place. And I was annoyed by the main character. And while I understand that the book was set in a different time, there was just far too much "boys will be boys" type talk. I really don't understand how/why she ends up with Jack Mac. The author does do a great job of highlighting Virginia as the setting, though Italy felt like such an afterthought.

DNF. oh this is awful. I simply can’t get past the immaturity of the narrator. She’s supposed to be 34 but reads about 15 and I haven’t got time for that. I understand the towns folk were supposed to be downhomey and folksy but let me tell ya, if I came from Virginia I’d be incredibly insulted by the depiction in this book. Every single person was portrayed as simple and lacking in curiosity. Life is too short for books like these.

Cute love story about an old maid in an Appalachian community.

Book #36 read in 2010

I really did not care for this book at all. It was my first by this author and it almost turned me off of her books. It was slow and boring.

If I didn't know better, I'd think Ms. Trigiani somehow got into my head to write this book - Ave Maria is ME!

There were times I didn't think I could read it all the way through. The ending was predictable and the writing was plain.

Fun and entertaining.
