This is a great book - small town America at it's best (and worst.) You will fall in love with the characters - they are amazing!

This was a cute book. I liked the main character a lot, felt like I could relate to her in many ways. In some ways the plot was predictable, but it was a cute story about a small town, so that's forgivable.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to completing the series. Having visited the Big Stone Gap area recently, the book came to life for me. I did not think it was as beautifully written as some of her other books and this is why I went with 4 stars instead of 5.

Although not a tough read, I could not put this book down! I needed this book. On to the next, what will Ava Maria do next?

Reminded me of Rita Mae Brown, and I mean that in the best way possible. In some ways, I kept expecting Ave Maria to end up a lesbian. ;-)

a nice light romance - I got a little irritated with Ave Maria - her denial of her love for Jack (and his for her) got on my nerves a bit. I think this will translate well to the big screen.

If you are considering reading this, stop it right now. This book is terrible, the characters are ridiculous and the tone strives for cozy but ends up sort of awkward instead. Put this book down immediately and pick up The Shoemaker's Wife by Trigiani, a historical family saga that is immensely readable and enjoyable.

A delightful book with great characters. The ending was too neat for me, but otherwise appreciated the real life struggles of the characters.

It took me a while to get into the story line and get use to the dialect, but it was entertaining.

This is one of that newly emerging category of books in my life that I read just because I sort of stumbled into them. It happened with The Blue Angel, this book and currently I am reading a rather good biography about a surfer. In the case of this book and the surfer book I found them when I was giving away some books to charity on behalf of my sister. I was subconsciously looking for something light to read and it said on the cover that it was a page turner and romantic (I have a really, really soft spot for romantic books. I think it might be because I sometimes can be quite a cynical nihilist.) So I read it. It took twenty pages for me to stop and think, Hey, the writing is bad, maybe I should stop reading this? But I had no other books lined up, so I ended up finishing it anyway. Luckily it didn’t take long.

To make it short: I don’t like the protagonist. She is incredibly judgemental of other people and completely unreflexive about many of her own flaws. This would be okay, if it wasn’t for the fact that I’m pretty sure we as readers are supposed to think her nice and selfless. Also, people in the book generally act weird and not in correspondence with their character, if you ask me. I just did not identify with this at all. I ended up throwing it out. Couldn’t bear to donate it.
