This book was referred to as a Little House on the Prairie book for adults by the blog Off the Shelf. I must agree. Quite interesting. A movie has been made of the book, so hurry and read it before it comes out. Better to plunge into the book and not the movie.

This book took me a long time to finish because I read it during my school year, however, I am extremely happy I read it. The movie was excellent so I knew I had to read the book. The book gives you a better insight into Mary Bee's mental state which the movie, I felt, didn't show as much. The writing was pretty simple and it would have been a quick read if I hadn't started reading it while I was at the peak of being busy at school. I think the book was very good and I would recommend.

Western or pioneer stories are not usually my kind of book, but this one really grabbed my interest early as the main character was such a strong female - very tough and resourceful. The first two thirds of the book were so enjoyable that I was heading towards giving this book a 4 or 5 star rating. Then it all falls apart in the last third. It's almost like somebody else wrote that section. It still ended up being an overall good book, but I just couldn't help but feel like a bait and switch occurred.

Started out very interesting but it really went off the boil in about the middle.

Let me begin by stating that westerns are not my cup of tea. Why then did I choose to read this book? Well, the blurb made it seem like it would be mostly about the group of insane women being transported. This was not the case. While their stories were told at different points in the book, I didn't feel like the book was about them. It was much more about Mary Bee Cuddy and Briggs who are transporting the women from the Territory back east to be delivered to their families. For me, the story was a disappointment and was very dry. Oh well, at least it was short.

This was a very well-written Western that really portrayed the psychological impact of life on the American frontier, especially for women. Great characters and some twists I didn’t see coming.

I'm still in the process of reading this piece of shit. I'm reading this book on recommendation not because it is good but because of the implausibility of the plot. The book perpetuates the american literature theme that all women are weak and a total bane to male existence.

Worst book I've ever read. Do not bother.

A quick, absorbing read, with a believable setting and initially intriguing characters but I couldn't get over some of the plot turns.
