Love the story, but super annoyed with the main characters.
I can totally say that I didn't like the main characters' choices. They made this book so chaotic, but I guess that's the main point of the story. Haha! And Okayyy, I'm giving them a break since they're still kids.
I love all the book references and I love the premise of making them spring to life. It's link Inkheart, only not really. It has lessons and adventures. Definitely for the kids and kids at heart. :)

I read this after my daughter who is 11 said how great it was and she was right! Good light hearted fun read with a good storyline. I’m excited to read the next book in the series!

I will admit: I was bored in the middle of this book. But Mr. Riley, you pulled through. Just like in the Half Upon a Time series, he pulls twists out of his hat, revealing deeper meanings to everything. And then it gets GOOD. It wasn't my favorite, because I expected something different, but I still may read the rest of this series. Although, it did end on a nice note.
Let's start with the characters. Owen is awesome, and he is a genuinely nice person. I'd like to be friends with him. Kiel is the same way, but he can get a little annoying...which is exactly what is meant to have happened. Bethany is relatable (at least to my A-type personality), and you can see her open up a little, which is nice. I do really want to see what happens with her in the future. And SHE CAN JUMP THROUGH BOOKS - how cool is that?! :D
The plot did get nice and deep, which was nice, except for me, who gets confused with too many details. ;) But it was awesome to have a great plot, especially considering some of the books I've read that fell flat. (cough cough GATHERING FROST cough cough; sorry, but I just didn't love it)
Overall, this was a read that slowly drew you in, diving you into a rich world filled with enjoyable characters and realistic emotions. Good start to a series.

This is my first time reviewing a book here, so hopefully I'm doing it right.
I read this book as the target audience: Book-loving tween. I haven't reread it since then, so my review is not going to be entirely comprehensive.
I loved the characters and the concept. Bethany, Owen and Kiel are all outgoing and adventurous kids, but they all have a certain individual flair, in my opinion.
Charm came off as a bit cold to me, but it's probably just her personality clashing with mine.
There are a few plotholes here and there, I can't deny that, but all-in-all I'd say this is a pretty good book! Would recommend if you are in for an adventure and are less focused on analysing the plot :)
Happy reading!

This was a fun read. It's perfect for younger kids who are looking to dive into an adventure. It also really made me wish I could jump into Harry Potter even more

This is more a 3.5 than a full 4.
I struggled to get into this, but I feel that's because I've already read a book this month about book jumping that really stole my heart. So I couldn't help but draw comparisons.
Owen's character frustrated me, but I enjoyed all the other characters. And by the end I was thoroughly enjoying the story.
Unsure if I will pick up the sequel. But it is an enjoyable story.
