Sport romance between a cheerleader and quarterback and most of all it's SAPPHIC??!! Amber and Jack so sooooooo cute. Overall this was an adorably cheesy little rom-com, and I loved every minute of it.

A special thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press & Wednesday Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this. Funny, emotional, lighthearted, angsty. It had that perfect mix that I love in YA of comical and sweet, but also serious and real. I loved the characters and the plot was entertaining. It was a very quick read too!

♡ Cute Ending
♡ Queer Sports Romance
♡ Cheerleader x Quarterback (sapphic edition)

I really enjoyed this book.  I mean it’s a gay sports romance, of course I’m going to like it.  The characters were cute and the ending was absolutely adorable.  While yes, the characters decisions at some points get a little bit frustrating, I think it plays well with the YA vibe of the book.

There was a lot of talk about homophobia and dealing with people like that in a small town and not wanting to come out of the closet to the public in fear of losing friendships.  However, both main characters are out at home and one even having a bisexual mom, which was a cool addition.

Overall, it was a  quick read with a sapphic take on the cheerleader x quarterback trope.

"Home Field Advantage" by Dahlia Adler offers a refreshing take on YA LGBTQIA+ sports romance. Set in the midst of Atherton high school, the football team  is mediocre at best. But the novel introduces Jack Walsh, a star quarterback who challenges stereotypes and expectations as a female player. As Jack navigates her way around teammates who resent her, and school mates who are suspicious of her, she begins budding romance with cheerleader Amber McCloud. Author Dahlia Adler deftly explores themes of identity, acceptance, and the complexities of high school relationships. With its engaging plot twists and authentic portrayal of teenage life, "Home Field Advantage" is a must-read for fans of the genre. Adler's compelling storytelling and diverse characters make this novel a standout addition to YA literature.

This was really great! I loved Jack and Amber and I think Dahlia struck a really good balance of making Amber both likeable but also sometimes frustrating. It was hard to see the way Amber didn’t always stand up for Jack but also it makes complete sense when you consider the fact that she’s closeted, needs the captaincy to help her future and is also a teenager.

I did really love how unapologetically queer Amber was in private, and she made it super clear to Jack very early on.

Carla was an interesting character, one that I didn’t like but felt a lot of empathy for.

I would’ve liked to see Miguel at least TRY to have Jack’s back the way Amber did.

Lastly, I would have liked to see a little bit more of the reaction of people finding out who their precious Robbie actually was - but also most probably wouldn’t care.

All in all this was a great YA read and defs one I would recommend picking up!

This book was okay. There was a lot of repetition to the story, and while there was a lot of talking about things, I felt like there wasn’t much to the plot.
