slow-paced

I’m hesitating giving this 5 stars because everyone says the other books are better but I can’t help it

I like the world, the premise, I’m interested in how the magic works.  However, Feyre is so annoying.  Everything happens “to” her in the story, or she is making idiotic decisions.

Why does she even like Tamlin?  Why does she think she can “save” him from some archenemy lady?  I wish I found it more intriguing cause I hear the other books are better.

My first try of romantasy. The world I found interesting but wasn’t really a focus of the authors. The main character… I don’t think I’m supposed to find her an unlikable idiot; but the first two chapters in her POV were bad enough I abandoned the book for a few months, picking it up later through concerted effort.

After leaving the starting location the book picks up. It’s fairly well written though there was one glaring consistency mistake that took me out of the story.

The riddle was blindingly obvious and felt like the character ought to have known it. I remain stunned that her dislike of Rhys remained throughout. It was also blindingly obvious why he behaved as he did and what his attitude was about very early.

I don’t know if it’s a writing issue or a perspective difference between a female author and male reader.

The romance? Tropey, even as a person who’s not read romance. If it does it for you, power to you. But it’s the equivalent of “she boobed boobily” from male authors. No surprises, the allure is a big strong man who is spectacularly rich, very scary and powerful, except with her. I have absolutely no idea why he would fall for her.

This is the best book in the series and it got me hooked. I devoured the 2nd and 3rd books but sadly, the series slowly degraded from book 2 and by the last book, I was unfortunately pretty disappointed. If a 6th book is published I am not likely to pick it up.
challenging emotional slow-paced

FOR PATIENT READERS ONLY! If you’re the kind of person that is fed up of things not making sense, can’t wait for plot exposition before dismissing story events as bad writing, and DNFs 50% of the way through, this book is not for you!

You can’t read this book without reading at the very least the second book in the series. Otherwise you’re basically looking at the bare bones foundations of a building and judging the planned cathedral from it—which is a bold and risky move on the part of the author, but it has HUGE payoff in the second book.

Many thanks to my buddy reader and friend Megs for persuading me to finally see what the hype is about and get over my snobbish tastes to go crazy for this series!
