I love that this book adds to the recipes by giving a history and index of the subjects at hand (for example: common herbs, the various feasts, and the different ways these resources impacted the way they became valuable within the cuisine). A really interesting read!

I hope to write a more thorough review soon, but for now I will just say I am very much looking forward making a bunch of the recipes in this book.
An absolutely beautiful book. Even though I can't easily procure a fair amount of the components used in these dishes, I still greatly enjoyed reading Sherman's philosophy on contemporary indigenous cuisine, and learning about many of the various recipe ingredients and their various respective roles in past and present indigenous cooking.
Loved this cookbook. My only issue is the fact that many foods that are Indigenous to the States either can't be found in grocery stores, or if they are, they're sold in specialty stores at unaffordable prices, not to mention the fact that we're not taught how to identify these foods growing wild in our areas (if they are at all due to being taken over by various invasive species). Hopefully this is the beginning of a revolution in which Indigenous foods to the States become more commonplace and we can find them anywhere and are taught how to cultivate, grow, raise, and prepare them.
