Really really loved this book! There was one section that felt really slow to me so I can’t give it 5, but I love Alex and Henry and will be rereading this soon.

I cannot believe I waited this long to read this book. It was utter perfection and I cried through at least half of it. Alex is such a great main character, the way he sees the world and wants the best for everyone. And Henry, too good for us all. All the side characters were so wonderful, too. I’m never getting over this one.

“I want to believe in some people being good and doing this job because they want to do good. Doing the right things most of the time for the right reasons. I want to be the kind of person who believes that.”

“The worst thing is one of the first big things that ever happens to you in your life. It happens to you, and it does all the way down to the bottom of what you know how to feel, and it rips it open and carves out this chasm down below to make room. And because you were so you, and because it was one of the first big things to happen in your life, you’ll always carry it inside you. Every time something terrible happens to you from them on, it doesn’t just stop at the bottom—it goes all the way down.”

Why did I wait so long to read this?! Casey McQuiston, you are magic.

This was a romance, but it was so much more. It was hopeful. It confronted big, hard things head-on. It had political intrigue and scandal. And I was rooting for every one of these characters the entire way through.

If I had more than 5 stars to give, this book would get those too.

I wish the politics weren’t based in reality. Why are we mentioning Mitch McConnell?

- the story feels tense a fair amount of the time
-
the start is somewhat rocky in my opinion, in parts due to my lack of knowledge in regards to pop culture and abbreviations, but the story gains momentum afterwards and is thrilling to read through

- very lovable characters, especially
the main six

-
what the ending may be "lacking in realism/depth" is made up by the way it is written: very in the moment, a bit richer in emotional depth

I just love this book so much, it makes me feel in love with love.

Of course, the ending is completely unrealistic—as the whole politics aspect of the book is, but sometimes that's what you need to get through life.

PS: I hate how people say this book has the "enemies to lovers" trope. It doesn't. It's a pet peeve of mine.
