"Beach read" was a book I read last year, and I remember really liking the story, but also liking the way the author voiced out certain things. The thought process of the characters and their feelings, it all just felt so well done. And it happened again with "People we meet on vacation".
It was so weird that I put a book on hold that I was reading, and the main character was also named Poppy? Must have been a sign or something.
I enjoyed this journey a lot. I will keep saying this. I like the "friends to lovers" trope more than "enemies to lovers". Sometimes they can overlap, but with friends to lovers, you always get this deep connection between the characters, they have usually known each other for years and they either have pent up feelings for one another, or one of them has been pinning for a while but hiding it, scared they will lose the other person.
I love books like this. And I love how both characters were so different, but managed to become so close.
I would say this book kind of reminds me of the movie "Love, Rosie" in a way.
I basically read this whole book in a day (less 2 chapters). I can't wait for her next book to be out in the world so I can love it as well.
5 stars.

Spoiler
There was this scene where Alex is talking about their first road trip back home from college, when they had only met once before. He tells Poppy that she asked him so many questions about himself, like she was genuinely interested in knowing those things about him. And he was so used to being there for everyone else that it felt like, at that moment, she was inventing him. That was so sad, and yet so beautiful.I would say this book kind of reminds me of the movie "Love, Rosie" in a way.

I read this book on Spring Break, which was the absolute perfect time to read this book. Overall, I enjoyed it though it did drag a little bit in comparison to Book Lovers and Beach Read. In general, I'm just not a huge fan of dual timeline novels and the miscommunication trope. However, at the end of the day, this is still an Emily Henry book and I love the way she writes dialogue and character interactions. I found Poppy to be an enjoyable character, and Alex was likable though I'm generally biased towards brunette main characters (still haven't figured out why). The characters fell a little bit flat for me though, and it lacked the obvious bookishness that I loved in Henry's other two novels. At the end of the day, I would define this book as one that I liked, but did not love. That doesn't mean it isn't a fantastic beach read though!
