The shifting POV was more confusing in this story than the previous. Their voices sounded similar in my head. It was helped by the titles of where it was taking place, but it still took a minute to reorient to which POV the reader was seeing from. I had to reread a number of passages because I was lost.

Overall, I enjoyed the character's stories.

I listened to the first two books through the library and could not languish in wait list hell so I bought the Kindle version of the third. I do not usually get into military SF because the ones I've read felt like watching others play chess and the female characters were cardboard. Not my idea of fun. This was so much more about the people and how they relate to each other. The characters are amazingly well drawn. They feel real. The crew is diverse and this passes the Bechdel test with flying colors. I put the book down hours ago but it feels like they are still talking and living their lives. (Kinda ironic for this book.)
Science Fiction - This series is Space Opera. There is FTL and not really an explanation of how it works. Most of the rest of the advanced tech makes sense though.
Romance - There is a romance. Because the writer writes so much about the lives and relationships some of them get around to more than smooching and it doesn't fade to black. It all fits in the story and with the characters and does not feel gratuitous to me.
Please everyone buy this series so that it becomes famous and is made into a movie.

So many great review that there probably must be something wrong with me, I found the book so very boring. I found the first book in the series an entertaining whodunnit/sci-fi romance, the second was so-so (what was the plot again) and the third one was... mostly waiting. A lot of waiting, mysterious cubes that were never explained, lots of Elena's whining and acting like an idiot, lots of Greg's whining and acting like an idiot - seriously, for a military organization the people in it just do what they please and come and go as they want.
If it weren't for the reading challenge I probably wouldn't bother to finish this.
One extra star for Jessica Lockwood.

Great book - I enjoyed the characters and the convoluted plot, and I was able to follow along even though I hadn't read the first two (a situation that I really should correct soon).

Of course this is also another case where nobody had the faintest idea what to put on the cover. Personally I think they should've put Captain Bayandi, but I guess they needed to make it military-ish or something.

It was fine? I still find Greg/Elena annoying and wish that Jessica had a book of her own because she's the best.

I’ve really been enjoying the central corps. novels. They’re just good quality space opera with nothing in them that’s overly annoying.
I find the Greg/Elena dynamic interesting since it almost feels like a role reversal in terms of who gets to be beautiful and pining and who gets to storm off and be melodramatic. I’m still not sure how I feel about them as a couple, but I don’t actively hate it.

Closure. Of sorts. For now.

If you liked the first two books in the series, you'll almost certainly like this one. If you haven't read the first two books in the series, don't read this one until you've done so. The context matters.
