I really enjoyed this, I personally found Margaret’s story so intriguing and I enjoyed the dynamic between Hayden and Alice. I also love how Em Hen explores familial dynamics and I found the relationship between Alice and her mother fascinating. While I really enjoyed this book and found the writing so beautiful, I personally felt that the pacing was a bit all over the place and felt that the ending in particular was quite rushed. The romance element of the book was also very rushed and verged on insta love territory. However, overall I still really enjoyed and I love the message that your story has began before you even existed. I also loved the sisterly relationship between Margaret and Laura. Overall stunning gut wrenching writing although a little incomplete.

Emily Henry, I LOVE YOU!!!
You have done it again, hit after hit, my goodness. And to top it all off, this story was really a buy one get one free deal. I feel so blessed!

"I find myself thinking that maybe every bit of heartbreak in life can be rearranged and used for something beautiful. That it doesn't really matter whether I chose this path or I was born onto it, so long as I stop and appreciate the path itself"
When I started reading the book it immediately felt like it is not written in typical EmHen style but the idea itself felt quite intriguing just as Seven Husband's of Evelyn Hugo which happens to be one of my all time absolute favorites, I really appreciate Emily Henry for trying out something new. We are presented with back and forth narration of past and present, two different stories of completely different people set in two different timelines, one set in the past that explores Family secrets, legacy and the dark side of the fame through generations and the other tries to bring two souls together who are meant for each other.
Margaret is living in secret away from her past, the fame and the money and all the pain it caused her. She is an enigma, a tabloid princess but she is elusive. When she finally accepts to tell her story, Alice comes in with a large heart and big hopes but soon realizes Margaret is not going to make it easy for her. She has to compete with a fellow grumpy, blunt but Pulitzer winning author Hayden over a trial period until Margaret chooses one of them to give away her full story. On one end we get to experience the infamous Margaret Ives life and on the other end we follow Alice and Hayden to witness how this ordeal ends up being life changing in so many ways for both of them.
While I loved the ambitious idea, As an Emily Henry stan I am personally a little disappointed that it didn't end up being a 5 star read. It is not a bad book but not my EmHen favorite either, the two storylines somehow did not feel seem less , it often left me feeling that the story is overcrowded with too many characters and side plots that I kept losing sight of the core idea. It resulted in either of the stories not gripping me enough to establish a connection with these characters. I also think that this book is not strictly romance but felt more like literary/Women's fiction as romance was not the forefront at all.
Maybe if you can go in with right expectations this one might entice you more that it did for me, there were some beautiful moments but for me personally it lacked the typical Emily Henry style of emotional purgatory you get towards the end of each of her books so far.
