🎧Julia Whelan
Julia has a quirky voice that fits well with Emily Henry books. I feel like her FMCs are always full of wit and fast with the comebacks. Julia has a way of narrating that gives us the emotions of the FMC. She did a great job with discerning between the two female characters and the MMC.

This story was a good witty read, clever plotting, and a bit of slow burn, yearning, spice. It’s a good mix of character versus plot driven. The FMC and MMC are journalists both after the life story of a women who went into hiding long ago. Who is this mysterious women and why is her family cursed? With each answer we get more questions and the biggest plot twist is not predictable. I enjoyed how the story was structured between alternating between the past life of the secondary female character and the present life of the main characters. It all made you keep turning the pages.

As always, Henry’s writing is good. The characters are cute and the dialogue flows nicely. Overall this book was good, but not great.
This isn’t really a «normal» romcom, as it focuses mostly on a family saga through an interview setting. Normally I’d love that (I like my romance with plot), but this one just didn’t hit. I think the main issue is that neither the romance nor the other plot is fletched out enough, meaning the whole book just falls a little short.
Firstly, the romance. The love interest is good, but the «love story» feels inorganic. There is NO reason for them not to be together, so Henry just keeps making up half assed reasons. Made me annoyed. The book also includes a third act conflict/miscommunication which I hate. The whole thing just felt a little «simple».
As for the family saga, it tried to evoke feelings that I never felt. We didn’t get to know the characters well enough. Also, the «plot twists» weren’t twisting. Anyways, it’s very clear that Henry is a fan of Evelyn Hugo.

À chaque roman de Emily Henry je me dis qu’il était encore mieux que le précédent.
Ici, mes thèmes favoris se mélangent : l’amour, la famille, les enquêtes.
Parfait pour accompagner l’été
