Nice story regarding Frances Perkins, the first woman to serve in a president's cabinet as Sec. of Labor. This is a woman who witnessed the Triangle Waist Company fire in 1911. !46 people died in the fire. This led her to champion the cause of the worker and their rights. This book details Frances' actions to help the worker then and now.

I received this as a review copy. I wish that when I was younger there were books like this.

How is it that Frances Perkins is not a household name, when so much of the progress made by our country in the 20th century is attributable to her work?

Love that more picture book biographies are being written about women leaders, especially labor leaders, and this biography of Francis Perkins is a nice addition. I like the hook of having the reader calculate when he or she will start receiving Social Security. Compared with The Only Woman in the Photo, another wonderful picture book biography of Frances Perkins also published this year, however, this one falls a bit short. Reading that one with my 7 year old, I recall him saying "Wow!" a lot...with this one, he didn't even realize it was about the same person at first. Nevertheless, without that other one to compare it to, this would shine even brighter, and both are welcome!

Highly recommended for both elementary and middle school libraries - great additions to women's history, labor history, and reform collections.

An unsung superhero -- the first woman to serve on a president's cabinet, Frances Perkins did so much for workers' rights, including imaging and launching Social Security.

Interesting and engaging lead.

I've seen Frances Perkins' name pop up a lot recently. In another book I'm reading, in a historical fiction book on the library shelf, and so on. It occurred to me that I didn't know who she was, so I looked to the library and all they had were biographies for kids. But it's a good starting place!

This was a good intro to her accomplishments. I'd really like to read more about her.

Thank you, Frances Perkins!

This book is a general overall look at Frances Perkins life. How she was the first female, labor, secretary, and how she ushered in things such as minimum wages, Social Security, disability rights, etc. Labor movements today would be less if it was not for the work that Frances Perkins did years ago.

This picture book biography celebrates the life and work of Frances Perkins, labor activist and one of the people behind the United States's social security program. Add it to displays and book lists on women's history alongside The Only Woman in the Photo, which came out earlier this year.

I am in utter awe of Frances Perkins: an amazing woman who created Social Security! I honestly had no idea on the background of social security of Frances, so this book was eye opening. I am one hundred percent, totally impressed.

Not only is this book super educational, fit for kids, and full of knowledge but it also has amazing pictures! This biography is an excellent way to celebrate Frances and I hope more books like this come my way. It's a great little story to share to young kids (especially girls!) who need to see that anyone can make a difference.

Four out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Peachtree Publishing Company for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
