this was the perfect book for me to get back into reading! i love the bbc tv series, and the structure of it being a collection of shorter stories rather than one big one meant it was easy to pick up and read a whole story when i had the time.

Although in modern media Sherlock Holmes is always the”star” and could do all those amazing without Watson’s help. I like how in the book they sort of depend on each other and Watson is so much of his own person and not just an extension of Sherlock.
You see, but you do not observe.
And that is how he solved all those cases, by observing. Not magic.
Which is explored/explained perfectly in the book.

Yeah, sorry I'm back filling this and I don't remember which short stories are in which since I am reading ALL of the sherlocks back to back as a buddy read. Basically I am loving them! I also keep getting pleasantly surprised by the hot-takes and forward/progressive opinions of sherlock. LOVE IT! (not saying there is not problematic stuff in these, its a product of its time, but nothing malicious, and MORE than not commentary against most bigotted and shitty beliefs.)

Doyle's Sherlock Holmes was a captivating read. Each case was independent from another, with enough introductory knowledge to link them. Watson is a creative and likeable character, contrasting Holmes' precise, and at times, irritating behaviours.
