This book is a collection of 12 short stories narrated by Dr. Watson, in which we follow several cases unraveled by the duo.
It was a very easy book to read (having in mind the time it was written).
My only regret is that the stories are so small, too small.. When it came time to completion I had a certain desire to have more to read..

I love Sherlock Holmes! He is probably one of my favorite detectives of all time! I found myself trying to solve each of the mysteries as Sherlock did, making little notes in my notebook about clues I thought might be important and then getting it wrong most of the time because I missed some little things that actually turned out to be quite important.
I enjoyed knowing some of the stories as they've been turned into TV shows or movies, so that helped me when it came to solving the mysteries.
I'm glad I have another collection of Sherlock Holmes stories to read!

I think that Sherlock Holmes in the original stories speaks to an ideal that a lot of people, perhaps everyone, has. He is not a walking supercomputer, as he’s often shown in TV adaptations, or even a mysteriously brilliant individual. There is never an important detail that we haven’t been shown long before the case is solved, we have everything we could possibly need to understand the truth. Doyle doesn’t use Holmes as a magic trick, flash to distract us from the fact that we’ve been tricked, he is asking us to see in Holmes something that already exists in us. If we were to compile the facts and connect them rationally we could reach the same conclusions as Sherlock Holmes; we’re being introduced to a rationalist role-model.
Whether it’s a sign of the times we live in that this aspect of the Holmes’ character has been abandoned for the sake of action sequences and magic tricks, or just a case of lesser writers, there’s absolutely nothing like the original stories.

A real delight. As with any selection of short stories, and especially with these being of a broadly pulp variety, there are ups and downs in here.
But to me, the main draw of this series is to get a real boots-on-the-ground look at Victorian life. Doyle writes fairly offhandedly about the minutia of everyday life, and the way that that society solved problems is fascinating to me.

A collection of quick, fun and interesting short stories about the adventures of Holmes and Watson. There's a reason why this is a classic.
