the ending is just a bit disappointing.
i saw the ending, there was a fuss and everything and i was hoping for a better ending after all they went through. but apparently, she has to live with the fact there's always someone hunting after her.

Every time I read a book of this author, I’m amazed by her imagination. It’s what makes each of her stories so unique. And her writing is just immaculate, even the acknowledgements are beautifully written!
I loved this story, but I’d have loved to see a more adult version of it, where it delves a little deeper into the characters backgrounds, their nightmares and all the technicalities of how this world works. But I really enjoyed this book and I think I need to read everything from this author at some point.

A not very good Victorian-ish novel. Mute (why?) orphan girl returns to mysterious crumbling family manor. Encounters many dead people hovering around. Some are evil because reasons.

This is an absolutely atmosphere read. The plot was just to move you through the setting. Read this book with some sad piano music playing in the background and you have set yourself up for the most perfect rainy day read anyone could ask for.

This was not only the most visually stunning book I’ve ever read, but it was also the most unique stand alone fantasy book I’ve read since Piranesi. Olivia shows us that we choose our home and we can always find our way back to family. Great great book!
