Too many characters to know them intimately, yet we learn some of their deepest secrets. Too much was crammed into one book with very little payoff for the reader.

This book jumped around between characters the whole time, but only for a few pages, making it confusing and difficult to follow plot lines. It felt like the author had a checklist next to each LGBTQIA letter and wanted to make sure there was a character representing each identity. I didn’t like that the entire C Team was not only outcasts, but almost all LGBTQIA, as if to say people with those identities are always outcasts. I wish the author had delved more deeply into a few key characters or made it a longer graphic novel with each character getting their own chapter, not 2-3 pages.

Kind of bizarre, but does fit the criteria for my invented personal favorite genre: queer comic of age graphic novels! Not my favorite read in general, but the last third of the book was really quite sweet. Some poignant moments.

Too many storylines to really develop the characters. Excellent queer representation though!

Great diversity and representation but unfortunately too many characters for such a short volume means that nobody gets the focus they deserve. Everyone's characterization is (apart from maybe Faith) surface level and can be summed up in a word or two.

The plotting is also slipshod.Things just happen because they happen and well yes, that's how real life is, fiction should have a narrative arc.

Faith's imagination interludes failed as a framing device. They didn't really illuminate anything until perhaps the very end when Faith's imaginary friend just straight out tells her the team needs to work together. Spoilers, they "work together" to say f this let's get some pizza. Which as a fellow indoor kid I totally get, but if soccer wasn't at all important to your plot couldn't you have tried a little harder to come up with a reason for all these characters to come together that was?
